E-Bike Stopped and seized |
||
|
Dear Residents,
On 17 August 2026, while carrying out mobile patrols in the local area, Sgt Holian and I identified a rider on an e-bike that appeared to be operating illegally. Following observations that the bike was being powered by a throttle, making it unlawful for use on the road, officers attempted to stop the rider.
The rider subsequently abandoned the bike. The e-bike was seized and will now be destroyed.
This particular bike had been linked to reports of anti-social and dangerous riding in the Uppermill area. By removing it from the streets, we have helped prevent further issues and improved safety for everyone in our community.
Following examination, the bike was found to be capable of speeds of up to 67mph. While relatively lightweight, a collision involving a vehicle travelling at this speed could result in serious injury to both the rider and other road users or pedestrians.
The seizure of illegal e-bikes is not uncommon, and your local Neighbourhood Policing Team regularly takes action to identify and remove these vehicles from our streets. We understand the concerns they cause within our communities and remain committed to tackling the issue.
If you have information about where illegal e-bikes are being stored, used, or who may be riding them, please let us know. Intelligence provided by the community is invaluable and helps us target enforcement where it is needed most. Thank you for your continued support.
Your Local Neighbourhood Policing Team
