UPDATE: DOVESTONES MOORLAND FIRE – CHARGED/ REMANDED. |
||
|
Good afternoon everyone.
Further to my updates regarding the moorland fires at Dovestones, I would like to provide a further update on the ongoing investigation.
The 20-year-old woman who was arrested yesterday has now been charged with aggravated arson and has been remanded in custody. She is due to appear before the court today, 14/07/2026.
As criminal proceedings are now active, there are strict limitations on what information can be released at this stage. We would therefore ask members of the public to refrain from speculation, both online and within the community, and allow the judicial process to take its course.
I would also like to reiterate the importance of staying away from the Dovestones area. Access restrictions remain in place and no persons are permitted to access the roads, moorland or surrounding land unless they are local residents with proof of address or local farmers who require access for legitimate purposes. These restrictions remain necessary to protect public safety and to allow emergency services and partner agencies to continue their work safely and effectively.
Road closures remain in place at Holmfirth Road and Bank Lane, with no access to Dovestones Reservoir.
We will continue to provide further updates when appropriate.
Thank you for your continued patience, understanding and cooperation.
Regards.
PS 1650 Andy Holian - Saddleworth & Lees Neighbourhood Sergeant.
