Cold Weather |
||
|
Hello everyone,
We’re currently experiencing very cold weather across Greater Manchester, with temperatures around freezing during the day and dropping well below zero overnight. Frost and icy conditions are making roads and pavements slippery, and there’s a yellow warning for snow and ice in place. Please take extra care if you’re travelling. Allow more time for your journey, clear your windows and mirrors before setting off, and drive slowly and gently to avoid skidding. If you’re walking, watch out for black ice on footpaths and steps, wear suitable footwear, and stick to main routes where possible.
This is also a good time to check in on anyone who might be vulnerable, such as elderly neighbours or those with health conditions. Make sure they have what they need and are keeping warm. At home, try to keep your heating at a safe level to prevent pipes from freezing and consider simple measures like draft-proofing doors and windows.
Greater Manchester Police are continuing their winter operation with extra patrols in town centres and busy areas to keep everyone safe. If you see anything suspicious or need help, please report it by calling 101 or using the GMP website. For emergencies, always call 999.
Let’s look out for each other and stay safe during this cold spell. Thank you for doing your part to keep our community strong.
