Operation Hurricane - Off Road Bike Operation Sunday 10th August 2025

Update from Sgt Walsh -

 

Officers and PCSOs from Rochdale North, supported by Rochdale East, along with Special Constabulary, community volunteers, United Utilities and Specialist resources from the Road Policing Unit which included on road and off road bikes and a marked traffic car, took part in Operation Hurricane to deal with off road bike issues. 

 

After a slow start to the day there were a number of incidents which we dealt with as follows – 

 

  • Two males observed taking part in what appeared to be a drug deal were detained and Stop Searched, no drugs were found on this occasion
  • Three off road bikes were followed from Catley Lane Head / Rooley Moor Road area before coming to a stop in Heywood. One of the Bikes was found to not be insured and was therefore seized
  • Traffic Patrols on route to assist the officer with the above incident had a motorbike fail to stop for them. A lengthy pursuit took place on Rochdale and Bury Districts which resulted in the bike eventually coming to a stop in Bury after a stinger was successfully deployed to deflate the tyres. The motorbike was found to be stolen and the rider also had two bags of cannabis in his possess, he was arrested for several offences and later charged and bailed to court for the offences of Dangerous Driving, Handling Stolen Goods and Possession of Cannabis.
  • A group of quad bikes were seen on Rooley Moor and followed over to the Lancashire area, unfortunately they were able to make good their escape on this occasion however while in that area two off road bikers were detained and their bikes seized under Section 59 Police Reform Act. The males were also stop searched for any articles they may have to be equipped for causing damage.
  • Officers on patrol spotted a female walking in between traffic on Whitworth Road, she became aggressive towards officers trying to assist her and was arrested for being drunk and disorderly.
  • Results - 

    2 x Arrests

    4 x Stop Searches

    4 x Bikes seized

    2 x PSPO Fines

    2 x Sec 59 Warning 

     

    Hopefully the continued actions to deal with such issues will make people think twice about coming to the Rochdale North and East rural hot spot areas, we will continue with these operations over the coming months.
