Street Engagement Hub - Two Vulnerable People Housed

Over the past week we have been posting updates regarding the work of our Street Engagement Team.

On Monday (2nd June), PC Donlan from the SET spoke to a male and female who were found outside the McDonalds on Oxford Street. Both were issued with Community Protection Warnings (civil orders prepared by Manchester City Council) due to their previous behaviour. At the same time, PC Donlan referred them to the Street Engagement Hub in an attempt to get them support.

Yesterday, both of them engaged with the process and attended the HUB where they were again seen by PC Donlan. Through liaising with various partners at the HUB both the male and female were provided housing where they will be supported to get off the streets long-term. The assistance offered them gives them a chance to better their situation and helps prevent them from causing issues for members of the public in the city centre.

The street community is often made up of individuals with complex needs, who require assistance with all manner of issues to get them off the street. The Street Engagement Hub at the Mustard Tree is a one-stop shop where the community can access various organisations best suited to help them, including medical care, housing and help with drug and alcohol issues. Our neighbourhood officers (including those not on the SET) are trained to refer those in need to this process, and will often make referrals when engaging with the community as they patrol around the city.
