City Centre arrests

Good morning,

Yesterday (19/05/2025) two of our City Centre Southern gateway officers were out on patrol along the Oxford Road corridor in a bid to tackle issues with electric e bikes.

The officers have come across a male driving at speed on a electric bike with a face covering on. The officers have attempted to stop the male who then tried to run over one of the officers. A struggle has occurred between the two officers and the male which has led to the male being tasered by officers. After the male has been detained he was searched and a large quantity of class B drugs were found, a kitchen knife and the bike was seized. During the arrest the male has fractured a finger of one of the officers.

The male was arrested and charged with police assault, possession of a bladed article, possess a controlled drug, and assault with intent to resist arrest.  He will be attending court today 20/05/2025.

This is the first arrest of our week long operation #Operation Sceptre. During this week officers will be out and about conducting stop searches, weapon sweeps and also speaking with retailers in relation to knife crime.
