Domestic Abuse Protection Orders being utilised for domestic-related stalking offences

Officers are utilising recently introduced DAPOs as part of their arsenal of measures to tackle stalking offences in Greater Manchester.

DAPOs – Domestic Abuse Protection Orders – provide greater opportunities to support victims and once they are in place, officers conduct regular compliance checks, to ensure the offender is adhering to the necessary conditions.

More than one-hundred DAPOs have been put in place since the pilot began around five months ago, with the breach of one being an arrestable offence.

With around 85% of stalking offences being domestic-related, DAPOs have been used in several cases to protect victims under these circumstances.

This week marks National Staking Awareness Week, and we are working to highlight what stalking can look like, how it is punished, and what people can do.
