Neighbourhood Crime Stats from March 1st 2025 (4 days)

Good evening everyone from the local Neighbourhood Policing Team covering the Coldhurst and Westwood area of Oldham.

I’d like to wish all our Christian followers a good day on Shrove Tuesday ,Pancake Day and in France Fat Tuesday (or Mardi Gras) which is a time to feast before the traditional Ash Wednesday Fast. Shrove is a derivative of Shrive meaning to present yourself for Confession, Penance and Absolution. In many ways this period of Lent is similar to the Muslim Ramadan where followers abstain from indulgences for 40 days and this is where on Pancake Day people traditionally used up their egg and flower and other foods to make substantial meals before the Fasting period begins the following day.

Anyway, back to Policing matters, so far this month the Coldhurst Ward has had 49 calls from the public from the 1st March to the 4th March with 16 of those calls actually being crimes.

Below is a quick breakdown chart showing what the incidents are:

All these incidents and crimes are generally spread out with very few reoccurring, however the main location for the majority of Incidents tends to be the Royal Oldham Hospital where we get a mixture of assaults and people with mental heath issues ringing in complaints; in this 4 day period the Hospital accounts for just over 30% of our 49 calls and that’s why we have a separate Policing Team covering that location even though the figures show up on the Coldhurst stats.

Basically, our figures are fairly average for the Oldham area but are made to look worse because of the hospital’s inclusion.

Please let me remind you to stay safe and vigilant and remember there are several ways to report crime, incidents or concerns all of which are on the GMP web page, please see the link below:
