Since my last update towards the end of August, the Radcliffe NPT have continued to passionately commit themselves to community safety and the three pillars of neighbourhood policing, including Problem Solving/Partnership Work, Targeted Activity, and Community Engagement. We have been directly involved in 9 recent arrests & 10 stop-searches, and supported many more conducted by our colleagues at the Bury Response Dept., and the Bury North NPT, as well as attending ‘public emergency’ calls every shift, alongside progressing our ‘standing’ workload. Below are some of the highlights of what we have been up to recently: On the 29th of August, at approximately 22:30hrs, whilst on patrol in Ainsworth, we responded to a call for assistance by a colleague in nearby Hawkshaw. A vehicle and two persons inside were stop-searched under S23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act. A significant quantity of Class A drugs was seized, plus a small amount of Cannabis, with the 20-year-old driver now facing prosecution. On the 30th of August we attended several emergencies, including a Domestic Abuse incident in King St., Prestwich. Later, we stop-searched a vehicle and two persons on Pilkington Rd., Radcliffe. A 55-year-old male was arrested for drug driving, driving without insurance, and driving without a valid license. He has been bailed pending CPS decisions – although his car was seized. His 28-year-old passenger is facing prosecution for Cannabis which was found during the search too. On the evening of the 31st, we descended on Festwich, a music event in Prestwich, and engaged with festival goers and event staff to create a safe and welcoming atmosphere. At approximately 00:30hrs on the 3rd of September, Bury Response attended an emergency call regarding a “disturbance” on Water Lane, Radcliffe. Three males were arrested as a result, for a variety of offences. One of the males, a 51-year-old local, was arrested and bailed after a significant quantity of suspected Class A drugs were found at a property he was linked to. Radcliffe NPT came in a few hours later and then charged and remanded one male for 12 counts of shoplifting, with the final male charged plus remanded for 10 counts of shoplifting. At Court the next day, they were released on bail, till their next appearance in October. At midday on Lord St., Radcliffe, the 5th of September, we arrested a 29-year-old male who was wanted for a serious offence by Interpol. The offence had occurred many years prior in Portugal. He was sent to court the day after. We also attended the Water St. Mural grand opening, celebrating the landmark with the local community. On the 6th of September we visited and conducted a wide-ranging School Talk and Q&A at Radcliffe Primary School, Coronation Road. On the 9th of September, at approximately 18:30hrs, just after our Radcliffe West PACT meeting, 3 persons, plus a vehicle, were subjected to stop-searches behind Tesco, Water St., Radcliffe. The vehicle was seized and the driver, a 55-year-old local male, prosecuted for driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance, and driving without a valid license. Not long after that, we assisted Bury Response, arresting a 25-year-old male on Hardmans Close, Radcliffe, for Criminal Damage & Fraud, following a 999 call. He was later released on bail, pending a CPS decision. After managing an RTC on Eton Hill Rd. on the 10th, we raided a property at St. John’s Court, Radcliffe, in support of Bury Response. A 35-year-old male was arrested as a result, for Breaches of a Restraining Order. He remains in prison. Meanwhile, the 14-year-old boy who had been abusive towards police staff in my last post was arrested at Victoria Train Station in the City, with a file pending charging decisions. On the 11th of September we secured a property back for Bury Council on Unsworth Street, Radcliffe, protecting it from being used as a place to shelter and use controlled drugs. Later that day, we arrested a 35-year-old wanted male on Water St. for threats to cause criminal damage. He has been bailed pending further inquiries. And on the 14th of September, Radcliffe NPT were on scene in Ramsbottom Town centre after a 999 call was made at approx. 13:05hrs, regarding a male with a pickaxe. The 54-year-old male was swiftly arrested for possession of an offensive weapon and racially aggravated public order – with his pickaxe seized. He is on bail pending a CPS decision. Next week, we have a number of multi-agency meetings planned with Irwell Valley Homes & Bury Council to problem-solve neighbour disputes/complaints, plus we will be attending community events hosted by Guinness Housing & Bury MBC.
