Operation Dasher - Bury Town Centre

It's getting to that time of year now where our town centre is seeing an increase in visitors.

As Bury Town Centre is the 3rd biggest shopping district in Greater Manchester it is predicted it will attract up to 100,000 extra visitors.

Traditionally at this time of year, crimes such as retail theft, robbery and vehicle crime increases. So to offer reassurance to the public and people who work and use Bury Town Centre you will see an increase of high visibility foot patrols in the area, also known as Operation Dasher.

Along with community engagement and reassurance we will also be robust in dealing with anti-social behaviour and taking a zero tolerance approach in dealing with criminality.

Officers will be deployed in the town centre in uniform to provide a visible presence for shoppers.

Crime Prevention Advice whilst enjoying the festive shopping season:

  • Always make sure you lock your car whenever you leave it
  • Do not leave valuable items or Christmas presents on show in your car
  • Keep your wallet or handbag securely fastened
  • If you carry a purse or bag hold it under your arm or in front of you
  • Always be aware of your surroundings and who is around you when shopping
  • It is best not to carry large sums of money, if you can, pay by debit or credit card
  • Never leave items of value unattended in a trolley, pram or elsewhere
  • Tis the season to stay safe!
